NYC Weather: Up To 5 Inches Of Snow Will Hit Friday
A winter weather advisory takes effect early Friday as the city faces a 100 percent chance of precipitation, with 1 inch of snow an hour.

NEW YORK CITY — A wintry blast is all but certain to blanket New York City with up to 5 inches of snow Friday, forecasters warn.
The city will be under a winter weather advisory Friday starting at 12 a.m. as the first major snowfall this season blows into the region, according to the National Weather Service.
“Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches,” the advisory states.

New Yorkers have yet to see accumulating snow this winter, which has so far been rather mild. Forecasters warned several times of potential snowfall, but each failed to either build up or even come to fruition.
This time is different — the National Weather Service predicts a 90 percent chance of snow starting Friday at 2 a.m.

The chance of precipitation moves up to 100 percent as day breaks Friday, mainly before 11 a.m., according to the forecast.
A hazardous weather outlook warns that the morning commute could be impacted by the snow.
“Snowfall rates could range between one half inch and one inch per hour in any heavy snowbands,” the outlook states.
City officials have already started preparing for the blast.
The Department of Sanitation issued a snow alert Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. Trash and recycling collections could be impacted as crews work to clear snow, officials warned. And composting collections will be suspended Friday.
Open Restaurants roadway dining will continue, if owners view it as safe, DSNY officials said.
