NYC Weather Forecast: Deep Freeze To End With Snow

The city will start thawing out on Tuesday.

NEW YORK, NY — This long stretch of dismal winter weather is almost over. A dusting of snow will fall Monday evening before giving way to the first temperatures above freezing since Christmas, the National Weather Service predicts.

Less than an inch of snow is expected to hit between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday, following a day with a high of about 32 degrees. That follows last week's "bomb cyclone" storm, which dropped more than a foot of snow on some parts of the city.

The mercury will get above freezing on Tuesday, with an expected high around 42 degrees. Temperatures will continue to warm up all week before hitting a toasty 53 degrees on Friday, although some rain could accompany the warmth.

It'll be a welcome change from the arctic temperatures that followed last week's blizzard. Lows hit single digits over the weekend, with wind chills as cold as -13 degrees on Sunday.
