NYC Weather: Heat, Thunderstorms, A Chance Of Wildfire Smoke
Western wildfire smoke could return to make New York City's skies hazy on Tuesday as an air quality alert hits surrounding areas.

NEW YORK CITY — Call it the trifecta of extreme weather that recently hit New York City: heat, thunderstorms and hazy, wildfire smoke-tinged skies.
All three could return to the city Tuesday, according to forecasters.
High temperatures will reach 91 degrees during the day, the National Weather Service forecast states. At night, there's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms that could carry over into Wednesday.

And wildfire smoke from out West is wafting over the country toward the East Coast, according to satellite imagery. New York City is not under an air quality alert, as of Tuesday morning, but that's not the case for Connecticut just to the north.
"Fine particulates from the departing wildfire smoke plume have been slow to disperse and unhealthy levels are expected to persist
throughout the day," the alert states. "An air quality action day means that particulate matter within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards."

New Yorkers last week were greeted by eerie, apocalyptic skies filled with smoke from wildfires from Northern California to Southwest Canada. The sun shone blood-red and the skyline appeared as if covered in a sooty fog.
Hazy skies could return Tuesday, NBC4 reported.
This story will be updated if the city is placed under an air quality alert.
