NYC Weather: Tornado, Large Hail Could Arrive With Severe Thunderstorm
Severe thunderstorms expected to hit Monday after 1 p.m. prompted a hazardous weather outlook by the National Weather Service.
NEW YORK CITY — Severe thunderstorms. Damaging winds. Large hail. An isolated tornado.
That brew of woe could hit the city after 1 p.m. Monday when New York goes under a hazardous weather outlook, forecasters warned.
Thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, will run ahead of an approaching cold front, the National Weather Service said.

"Large hail and an isolated tornado may also be possible," the outlook states.
New York City's greatest chance of seeing severe weather starts at 2 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m., although rain and storms could linger later, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind gusts more than 58 mph could develop, according to a weather briefing. Up to a half-inch of rain could fall, the forecast states.
And 1-inch hail is another danger that roll in with the storms, the weather briefing states.
"Numerous thunderstorms could become severe, and potentially significant, with damaging winds and large hail," the briefing states. "An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out."

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Some of the storms could be severe. High near 72. South wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Showers and thunderstorms before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and 11pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 58. Southwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
