NEW YORK CITY — Better find some air conditioning — a blast of near-record heat is headed to New York City, forecasters warn.
Highs across the city will crack 90 degrees Tuesday, with some neighborhoods getting locally hotter, according to the National Weather Service.
Central Park, for example, is predicted to reach 94 degrees, the forecast states. The hottest recorded temperature in the park for May 31 stood at 96 degrees, according to National Weather Service records.

The culprit is a wave of dry and warm air moving over the region, according to AccuWeather. But the heat likely will break by later Tuesday, forecasters say.
"A cold front moving southward out of eastern Canada on Tuesday will sweep across New England and push back the wave of heat and humidity," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Mike LeSeney said.

This “back door cold front” — named because it moves opposite to most weather systems — is predicted to send highs plunging back down to more-seasonable temperatures, forecasters say.
The high Wednesday is predicted to be 73 degrees, with a chance of showers that will persist throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
