NEW YORK CITY — Old Man Winter is about to give the city a New Year's gift — at least according to forecasters.

Forecasters pin the chance of snowfall at 70 percent starting Thursday night.

"Right now the best chance of precipitation looks to occur during the second half of Thursday night into the Friday morning time frame, setting up what could be an impactful Friday morning commute," a National Weather Service forecast discussion states.

The snowfall, if it occurs, could be the first accumulating blast this winter and in 2022.

Indeed, rain also looks likely this week, according to the forecast. Wednesday carries a 50 percent chance of showers.
