NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes For Aug. 19-20

NEW YORK CITY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Aug. 18, through early Monday morning, Aug 21 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a whopping 14(!) train lines will be running with modified service. (For more news about your NYC neighborhood, subscribe to Patch to get a daily newsletter and breaking news alerts.)

2 train:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2 trains are suspended in both directions between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St. Free shuttle buses operate all weekend between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St, stopping at Nereid Av, 233 St, 225 St, 219 St, Gun Hill Rd, Burke Av, Allerton Av, Pelham Pkwy, and Bronx Park East. Transfer between shuttle buses and 2/5 trains at E 180 St.

2/3 train:

• Until Spring 2018, 2/3 service will be suspended in Brooklyn each weekend from 11:45 p.m. on Friday to 5:00 a.m. on Monday.
  • In Brooklyn, 4 service will be extended to New Lots Av to replace the 3. 5 service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the 2. 4 and 5 trains will run local in Brooklyn. Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations. As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St 4/5. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for N/Q/R trains for service to Manhattan.
  • In Manhattan, downtown 2/3 trains will be rerouted. 2 trains will run between the Bronx and Rector St*, making local stops between 34 St- Penn Station and Rector St*. 3 service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St. Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations. Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St 4/5 stations instead.
  • A free out-of-system transfer will be available between the Rector St 1/2 and Wall St 4/5. Transfer between 1 and R trains at South Ferry-Whitehall St. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for N/Q/R trains to Brooklyn. 2 trains will run to/from South Ferry when the new South Ferry station reopens.

4 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, August 20, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, August 20 to 5:00 a.m.Monday, August 21, Downtown 4 trains run express from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St.
• From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, August 19 to 5:00 a.m. Monday August 21, Downtown 4 trains run local from Grand Central-42 St to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. Uptown 4 trains run local from Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall to 125 St.

6 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, 6 trains run express from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St.
• From 6:45 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall bound 6 trains run express from Pelham Bay Park to Parkchester.

A train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, August 20, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, August 20 to 5:00 a.m.Monday, August 21, Brooklyn-bound A trains run express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St.

C train:

• From 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, and Sunday, August 20, Brooklyn-bound C trains run express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St.

D train:

• At all times until Fall 2017, D trains skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St F/G/R or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, August 20, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, August 20 to 5:00 a.m.Monday, August 21, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D trains run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 20, Norwood-205 St bound D trains skip 155 St.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 20, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D trains skip 182-183 Sts.
• From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, August 19 to 4:45 a.m. Monday, August 21, D trains run local in both directions between 34 St-Herald Sq and W 4 St-Wash Sq.

E train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, E trains are rerouted via the F line in both directions between 21 St-Queensbridge and 34 St-Herald Sq, the last stop.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 7:00 a.m. Sunday, August 20, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, August 20 to 5:00 a.m.Monday, August 21, World Trade Center-bound E trains run express from 71 Av to the 21 St-Queensbridge F station.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, Manhattan-bound E trains skip Briarwood and 75 Av.

F train:

• At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound F trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I.
  • For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-boundF train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F.
• For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound F.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F trains run via the E from Roosevelt Av to 42 St, then express via the A to Jay St-MetroTech. Jamaica-bound F trains run via the E after 47-50 Sts to Roosevelt Av.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, Manhattan-bound F trains skip Sutphin Blvd, Briarwood, and 75 Av.

J train:

• At all times until Summer 2017, Manhattan-bound J trains skip 121 St.
  • For service to this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound J to 111 St and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
  • For service from this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from L service at nearby 111 St.
  • Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer bound J trains skip 121 St between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. Take a Q56 bus or the Z train instead.

M train:

• At all times until September 1, M service is suspended in both directions between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. Free shuttle buses provide alternate service. M service operates between 71 Av and Myrtle Av, then via the J to/from Broadway Junction. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Myrtle Av J/M/Z, Flushing Av J/M, Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs L and Jefferson Av L. Free shuttle buses operate along three routes:
  • Local between Myrtle Av and Fresh Pond Rd, making all M station stops.
  • Local between Myrtle Av and Metropolitan Av, making all M stops (Fresh Pond Rd, evenings/nights only).
  • Express between Flushing Av J and Metropolitan Av, stopping at Jefferson St L and Fresh Pond Rd.

N train:

• At all times until Fall 2017 N trains skip 53 St in both directions. Take the B37 or B63 to the nearby 45 St or 59 St stations for N/R service. N trains stop at 45 St during late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day)
• At all times until Fall 2017, N trains will skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St FGR or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses. Please note that N trains stop at 4 Av-9 St and 25 St during the late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. everyday).
• At all times until Fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St.
• For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.
  • For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N.
• For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, N service is suspended in both directions between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza. Free shuttle buses provide alternate service and make all N line station stops between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza. Transfer between free shuttle buses and N trains at Queensboro Plaza.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains run express from 34 St-Herald Sq to Canal St, and are rerouted via the Q to DeKalb Av.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, August 20, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, August 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 59 St.

Q train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, August 20, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, August 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound Q trains run express from 34 St-Herald Sq to Canal St.

R train:

• At all times until Fall 2017 R trains skip 53 St and Bay Ridge Av in both directions. Take the B9, B37 or B63 to nearby stations. N trains stop at 45 St during late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day)
• At all times Fall 2017, R trains will skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St FGR or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses. Please note that N trains stop at 4 Av-9 St and 25 St during the late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. everyday)
• From 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20, R service operates to/from the 179 St station.
• From 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20, Bay Ridge-bound R trains run express from 34 St-Herald Sq to Canal St, and are rerouted via the to DeKalb Av.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, Bay Ridge-bound R trains run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 59 St.
• From 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20, Manhattan-bound R trains run express from 71 Av to Queens Plaza.
