NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes For Aug. 5-6

NEW YORK CITY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Aug. 4, through early Monday morning, Aug 7 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a whopping 15(!) train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 1 trains are suspended in both directions between 137 St and Van Cortlandt Park-242 St. 1 service operates between South Ferry and 137 St. For service between 137 St and 168 St, use free shuttle buses or the A/C at nearby stations. For service between 168 St and 191 St, use M3 or free shuttle buses. Or, use the A at nearby stations. Transfer between 1 and A/C trains at 59 St. For Dyckman St and 207 St, use the A at nearby stations. For service between 207 St and 242 St, take free shuttle buses to/from A trains at 207 St.

2/3 train:

• Until Spring 2018, 2/3 service will be suspended in Brooklyn each weekend from 11:45 p.m. on Friday to 5:00 a.m. on Monday.
  • In Brooklyn, 4 service will be extended to New Lots Av to replace the 3. 5 service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the 2. 4 and 5 trains will run local in Brooklyn. Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations. As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St 4/5. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for N/Q/R trains for service to Manhattan.
  • In Manhattan, downtown 2/3 trains will be rerouted. 2 trains will run between the Bronx and Rector St*, making local stops between 34 St- Penn Station and Rector St*. 3 service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St. Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations. Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St 4/5 stations instead.
  • A free out-of-system transfer will be available between the Rector St 1/2 and Wall St 4/5. Transfer between 1 and R trains at South Ferry-Whitehall St. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for N/Q/R trains to Brooklyn. 2 trains will run to/from South Ferry when the new South Ferry station reopens.

4 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 4 service operates to/from New Lots Av all weekend, replacing the 3 in Brooklyn.

5 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 5 service operates to/from Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College all weekend, replacing the 2 in Brooklyn.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 5 service is suspended in both directions between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St. 2 service operates between E 180 St and South Ferry. 5 service operates between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and Wakefield-241 St. Free shuttle buses operate between Dyre Av and E 180 St, stopping at Baychester Av, Gun Hill Rd, Pelham Pkwy, and Morris Park.

6 train:

• From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, August 5 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 6 service operates in two sections. Between Pelham Bay Park and 125 St, and between 125 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, Pelham Bay Park-bound 6 trains run express from 3 Av-138 St to Hunts Point Av.

A train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, August 6, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, August 6 to 5:00 a.m.Monday, August 7, A trains run express in both directions between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Canal St.

C train:

• From 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 5, and Sunday, August 6, C trains run express in both directions between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Canal St.

D train:

• At all times until Fall 2017, D trains skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St F/G/R or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses.
• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, D trains are suspended in both directions between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. D service operates as follows:
• Between Norwood-205 St and 59 St-Columbus Circle, runs local via the C to/from W 4 St-Wash Sq, and via the F to/from 2 Av, the last stop.
• Between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Coney Island-Stillwell Av (express between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St).
• Free shuttle buses operate between Grand St and W 4 St-Wash Sq, stopping at B’way-Lafayette St.
• To/from 7 Av, take the E via transfer at 42 St/Port Authority. For 47-50 Sts, 42 St-Bryant Pk, and 34 St-Herald Sq, take the F instead via transfer at W 4 St-Wash Sq. Or, use the N/Q or R stations. For Grand St, take free shuttle buses, transfer at W 4 St-Wash Sq or B’way-Lafayette St D/F stations. Or use the N/Q/R at the nearby Canal St station.
• For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, take the N/Q or R. Transfer between D and N/Q/R trains at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, Manhattan-bound D trains skip 182-183 Sts.

E train:

• At all times until August 2017, Manhattan-bound E trains skip 75 Av. For service to this station, take a Manhattan-bound E or F train to 71 Av and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound E or Jamaica-bound F. For service from this station, take a Jamaica-Center bound E or Jamaica-Center bound F to Union Tpke and transfer to a Manhattan-bound E or F. Jamaica Center-bound E service is available evenings and late nights.
• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, E trains are suspended in both directions betweenJamaica Center Parsons/Archer and Forest Hills-71 Av. E service operates between Forest Hills-71 Av and World Trade Center. Free shuttle buses operate between Jamaica Center and Forest Hills-71 Av, making all station stops. E/F trains run local in both directions in Queens. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Forest Hills-71 Av. LIRR will cross-honor MetroCard for travel between Penn Station and Jamaica stations, and between Penn Station and Kew Gardens. NYC Transit customers should present their MetroCard to the LIRR conductor.

F train:

• At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound F trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I.
  • For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-boundF train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F.
• For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound F.
• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, F trains are suspended in both directions between Jamaica-179 St and Forest Hills-71 Av. F service operates between Forest Hills-71 Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Free shuttle buses provide alternate service, and operate between Jamaica-179 St and Forest Hills-71 Av, making all station stops. E/F trains run local in both directions in Queens. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Forest Hills-71 Av. LIRR will cross-honor MetroCard for travel between Penn Station and Jamaica stations, and between Penn Station and Kew Gardens. NYC Transit customers should present their MetroCard to the LIRR conductor.

J train:

• At all times until Summer 2017, Manhattan-bound J trains skip 121 St.
  • For service to this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound J to 111 St and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
  • For service from this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from L service at nearby 111 St.
• Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer bound J trains skip 121 St between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. Take a Q56 bus or the Z train instead.
• From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, August 5 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6, Broad St-bound J trains skip Flushing Av, Lorimer St and Hewes St.

M train:

• At all times until September 1, M service is suspended in both directions between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. Free shuttle buses provide alternate service. M service operates between 71 Av and Myrtle Av, then via the J to/from Broadway Junction. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Myrtle Av J/M/Z, Flushing Av J/M, Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs L and Jefferson Av L. Free shuttle buses operate along three routes:
• Local between Myrtle Av and Fresh Pond Rd, making all M station stops.
• Local between Myrtle Av and Metropolitan Av, making all M stops (Fresh Pond Rd, evenings/nights only).
• Express between Flushing Av J and Metropolitan Av, stopping at Jefferson St L and Fresh Pond Rd.
• From 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 5, and from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6, M trains run every 20 minutes. Manhattan-bound M trains skip Flushing Av, Lorimer St and Hewes St.

N train:

• At all times until Fall 2017 N trains skip 53 St in both directions. Take the B37 or B63 to the nearby 45 St or 59 St stations for N/R service. N trains stop at 45 St during late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day)
• At all times until Fall 2017, N trains will skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St FGR or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses. Please note that N trains stop at 4 Av-9 St and 25 St during the late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. everyday).
• At all times until Fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St.
• For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.
• For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N.
• For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 4 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, N trains run local in both directions between DeKalb Av and 59 St, Brooklyn.

R train:

• At all times until Fall 2017 R trains skip 53 St and Bay Ridge Av in both directions. Take the B9, B37 or B63 to nearby stations. N trains stop at 45 St during late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day)
• At all times Fall 2017, R trains will skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St FGR or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses. Please note that N trains stop at 4 Av-9 St and 25 St during the late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. everyday)
• From 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 5 and Sunday, August 6, R trains are suspended in both directions between Forest Hills-71 Av and Queens Plaza. Take E or F trains instead.
