NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes For July 15-16

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, July 14, through early Monday morning, July 17 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a staggering 17(!) train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

• From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, July 15 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, downtown 1 trains run express from Van Cortlandt Park-242 St to 215 St.
• From 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, and from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 1 trains run every 16 minutes between 137 St and Van Cortlandt Park 242 St.

2/3 train:

• Until Spring 2018, 2/3 service will be suspended in Brooklyn each weekend from 11:45 p.m. on Friday to 5:00 a.m. on Monday.
  • In Brooklyn, 4 service will be extended to New Lots Av to replace the 3. 5 service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the 2. 4 and 5 trains will run local in Brooklyn. Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations. As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St 4/5. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for N/Q/R trains for service to Manhattan.
  • In Manhattan, downtown 2/3 trains will be rerouted. 2 trains will run between the Bronx and Rector St*, making local stops between 34 St- Penn Station and Rector St*. 3 service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St. Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations. Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St 4/5 stations instead.
  • A free out-of-system transfer will be available between the Rector St 1/2 and Wall St 4/5. Transfer between 1 and R trains at South Ferry-Whitehall St. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for N/Q/R trains to Brooklyn. *2 trains will run to/from South Ferry when the new South Ferry station reopens.

2 train:

• From 4:45 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, South Ferry-bound 2 trains skip Jackson Av.

4 train:

• From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 14 to 3:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 4 service operates in two sections: between Woodlawn and 125 St, and between 125 St and New Lots Av. To continue your trip, transfer at 125 St.
• From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 14 to 3:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 4 service operates to/from New Lots Av all weekend, replacing the 3 in Brooklyn.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 14 to 3:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, Woodlawn-bound 4 trains skip 138 St-Grand Concourse.

5 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 14 to 3:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 5 trains are suspended in both directions between the Bronx and 86 St in Manhattan. 5 service operates all weekend between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and 86 St. Free shuttle buses operate all weekend between Dyre Av and E 180 St, stopping at Baychester Av, Gun Hill Rd, Pelham Pkwy, and Morris Park. Transfer between shuttle buses and 2 trains at E 180 St. Transfer between 2 and 4 trains at 149 St-Grand Concourse.

7 train:

• From 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, Main St-bound 7 trains run express from Queensboro Plaza to 74 St-Broadway.

A train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 14 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, A trains are rerouted via the F line in both directions between W 4 St-Wash Sq and Jay St-MetroTech.

C train:

• From 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, and Sunday, July 16, C trains are rerouted via the F line in both directions between W 4 St-Wash Sq and Jay St-MetroTech.

D train:

• At all times until Fall 2017, D trains skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St F/G/R or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 14 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, July 16, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, July 16 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, Norwood-205 St bound D trains run express from 36 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

E train:

• At all times until August 2017, Manhattan-bound E trains skip 75 Av. For service to this station, take a Manhattan-bound E or F train to 71 Av and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound E or Jamaica-bound F. For service from this station, take a Jamaica-Center bound E or Jamaica-Center bound F to Union Tpke and transfer to a Manhattan-bound E or F. Jamaica Center-bound E service is available evenings and late nights.
• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 14 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, E trains are suspended in both directions between Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer and Forest Hills-71 Av. E service operates between Forest Hills-71 Av and World Trade Center. Free shuttle buses operate between Jamaica Center and Forest Hills-71 Av, making all station stops. E/FF trains run local in both directions in Queens. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Forest Hills-71 Av. LIRR will cross-honor MetroCard for travel between Penn Station and Jamaica stations, and between Penn Station and Kew Gardens. NYC Transit customers should present their MetroCard to the LIRR conductor.

F train:

• At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound F trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I.
• For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-boundF train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F.
• For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound F.
• At all times until August 2017, Manhattan-bound F trains skip 75 Av. For service to this station, take a Manhattan-bound E or F train to 71 Av and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound E or Jamaica-bound F. For service from this station, take a Jamaica-Center bound E or Jamaica-Center bound F to Union Tpke and transfer to a Manhattan-bound E or F. • From 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 14 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, G trains are suspended in both directions between Church Av and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts. G service operates in two sections:
  • Between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs, and between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, every 20 minutes.
  • To continue your trip, transfer at Bedford-Nostrand Avs. Transfer between A and G trains at Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, and transfer between A and F trains at Jay St-MetroTech.

J train:

• At all times until Summer 2017, Manhattan-bound J trains skip 121 St.
  • For service to this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound J to 111 St and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
  • For service from this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from L service at nearby 111 St.
  • Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer bound J trains skip 121 St between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. Take a Q56 bus or the Z train instead.

M train:

• Beginning 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 1 until September 1, M service is suspended in both directions between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. Free shuttle buses provide alternate service. M service operates between 71 Av and Myrtle Av, then via the J to/from Broadway Junction. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Myrtle Av J/M/Z, Flushing Av J/M, Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs L and Jefferson Av L. Free shuttle buses operate along three routes:
  
  • Local between Myrtle Av and Fresh Pond Rd, making all M stops.
  • Local between Myrtle Av and Metropolitan Av, making all M stops (Fresh Pond Rd, evenings/nights only).
  • Express between Flushing Av J and Metropolitan Av, stopping at Jefferson St L and Fresh Pond Rd.

N train:

• At all times until Fall 2017 N trains skip 53 St in both directions. Take the B37 or B63 to the nearby 45 St or 59 St stations for N/R service. N trains stop at 45 St during late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day)
• At all times until Fall 2017, N trains will skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St FGR or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses. Please note that N trains stop at 4 Av-9 St and 25 St during the late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. everyday)
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 14 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, July 16, and from 11:45 p.m. Sunday, July 16 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, Manhattan-bound N trains run express from 59 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

Q train:

• From 10:45 p.m. Friday, July 14 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound Q trains run express from Kings Hwy to Sheepshead Bay.

R train:

• At all times until Fall 2017 R trains skip 53 St and Bay Ridge Av in both directions. Take the B9, B37 or B63 to nearby stations. N trains stop at 45 St during late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day)
• At all times Fall 2017, R trains will skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St FGR or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses. Please note that N trains stop at 4 Av-9 St and 25 St during the late night hours only (12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. everyday)
• From 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16, R trains are suspended in both directions between Forest Hills-71 Av and Queens Plaza.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 14 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, Queens Plaza-bound R trains run express from 59 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
