NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes For Oct. 28-29

Watch out: The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, C, D, E, F, J, M, N, Q and R trains won't run normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Oct. 27, through early Monday morning, Oct. 30 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a whopping 17(!) train lines will be running with modified service. (For more NYC local news, subscribe to Patch to get a daily newsletter and breaking news alerts.)

1/2 trains:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, uptown 1/2 trains run express from Times Sq-42 St to 72 St due to continuous welded rail and track replacement.

2/3 trains:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2/3 service will be suspended in Brooklyn due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel. This project is part of MTA’s ongoing efforts to fix assets damaged during Sandy, and include repairs and rehabilitation of tracks, signals, pump rooms, fire protection system, and power and communication cables.
    • In Brooklyn, 4 service will operate local to Crown Hts-Utica Av to replace the 3. Free shuttle buses will run from Crown Hts-Utica Av to New Lots Av. 5 service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the 2. 4 and 5 trains will run local in Brooklyn. Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations. As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St 4/5. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for N/Q/R trains for service to Manhattan.
    • In Manhattan, downtown 2/3 trains will be rerouted. 2 trains will run between the Bronx and South Ferry, making local stops between 34 St-Penn Station and South Ferry. 3 service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St. Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations. Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St 4/5 stations instead.
    • A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry 1/2 and Bowling Green 4/5 Transfer between South Ferry 1/2 and R at South Ferry-Whitehall St. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for N/Q/R trains to Brooklyn.
  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, October 28 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, downtown 2/3 trains run local from 96 St to Times Sq-42 St due to track maintenance.

2/5 train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2/5 trains are suspended in both directions between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St due to station rehabilitation work. 2 service operates between South Ferry and E 180 St.5 service operate between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and Wakefield-241 St. Free shuttle buses operate between E 180 St and Eastchester-Dyre Av. Transfer between buses and 2/5 trains at E 180 St.
  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, October 28 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, uptown 2/5 trains run express from 3 Av-149 St to E 180 St due to track maintenance.

4 train:

  • From 11:30 p.m. Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, 4 trains are suspended in both directions between Crown Hts-Utica Av and New Lots Av due to track replacement, switch work, and platform repairs. Free shuttle buses make all station stops between Crown Hts-Utica Av and New Lots Av. Transfer between 4 trains and shuttle buses at Crown Hts-Utica Av.
  • From 5:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29, Crown Hts-Utica Av-bound 4 trains skip 176 St, Mt Eden Av, 170 St, 167 St, and 161 St due to track maintenance and tie renewal Use a Woodlawn-bound 4 train to complete your trip. Transfer at 149 St- Grand Concourse or Burnside Av.

4/5 train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. on Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, 4 service will operate local to Crown Hts-Utica Av and 5 service is extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel. 4/5 trains will run local in Brooklyn to replace the 2/3. A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry 1/2 and Bowling Green 4/5 stations.

6 train:

  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, October 28 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 6 service is suspended in both directions between Pelham Bay Park and Parkchester due to electrical improvements. 6 service will operate between Parkchester and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. Free shuttle buses will make all 6 line station stops between Pelham Bay Park and Parkchester.

7 train:

  • From 3:45 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, and Sunday, October 29, Flushing-Main St bound 7 trains run express from Queensboro Plaza to Mets-Willets Point due to track panel installation.

A train:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, October 28 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, A trains run local in both directions between Euclid Av and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts due to electrical improvements as part of the Subway Action Plan.

A/C trains:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, uptown A/C trains run express from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to signal improvements.
D train:
  • At all times until Fall 2017, D trains skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St F/G/R or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses.

D/N trains:

  • From 11:45 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Friday, October 27 to Monday, October 30, Manhattan-bound D/N trains run express in Brooklyn from 59 St/36 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to Enhanced Station Initiative work at Prospect Av. Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Ave bound D/N local train to complete your trip.

E train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, uptown E trains skip Spring St and 23 St due to signal improvements and switch maintenance.

E/F trains:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, October 28 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, Jamaica Center/Jamaica-bound E/F trains run local from Queens Plaza E/21 St-Queensbridge F to 71 Av due to signal improvements along Queens Boulevard.

F train:

  • At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound F trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I.
    • For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-boundF train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F.
    • For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound F.
  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, Jamaica-179 St bound F trains skip 14 St and 23 St due to signal improvements and switch maintenance.

J train:

  • At all times until Fall 2017, Manhattan-bound J trains skip 121 St.
    • For service to this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound J to 111 St and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
    • For service from this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from L service at nearby 111 St.
    • Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer bound J trains skip 121 St between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. Take a Q56 bus or the Z train instead.

M train:

  • At all times until April 2018, M service is suspended in both directions between Myrtle Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs. M service will operate in two sections:
    • Between Essex St and Myrtle Av, and via the J to/from Broadway Junction, days/evenings.
    • Between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
    • Free shuttle buses operate between Myrtle Av (Broadway) and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

N train:

  • At all times until Fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St.
    • For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.
    • For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N.
    • For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • At all times until Spring 2018, N trains skip 30 Av and 36 Av in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations for N/W service at Broadway, Astoria Blvd, and 39 Av, or go to the Steinway St or 36 St M/R stations. Or, use the following convenient bus route(s):
    • Q102 to open Astoria line stations, Queensboro Plaza N/W/7 or Queens Plaza E/M/R.
    • Q18 to Northern Blvd M/R.
    • Q66 to Steinway St M/R, Northern Blvd M/R, 21 St-Queensbridge F, Queensboro Plaza N/W/7, and Queens Plaza E/M/R.
    • Q69 and Q100 Ltd to 21 St-Queensbridge F, Queens Plaza E/M/R, Queensboro Plaza N/W/7.
  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, Astoria-Ditmars Blvd bound N trains skip 39 Av and Broadway due to station enhancements. Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N train to complete your trip.
  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, October 28 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains stop at 45 St and 53 St due to electrical improvements as part of the Subway Action Plan.

Q train:

  • From 4:45 a.m. Saturday, October 28 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, Q trains are suspended in both directions between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Brighton Beach due to track replacement. Free shuttle buses provide alternate service, and operate between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Brighton Beach, stopping at West 8 St and Ocean Pkwy.

N/R train:

  • At all times until Fall 2017 R trains skip Prospect Av in both directions due to station enhancements. For service to/from Prospect Av use the 4 Av-9 St F/G/R or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses.

R train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 27 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, R trains are suspended in both directions between Bay Ridge-95 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to electrical improvements as part of the Subway Action Plan. Free line closure buses will make all R line station stops between Bay Ridge-95 St and 59 St. Transfer between trains and free line closure buses at 59 St N station.
