NYC Winter Weather: Here's The Latest On Snow Hitting The City
Up to 8 inches could fall through Friday night as New York City is placed under a winter weather advisory by the National Weather Service.
NEW YORK CITY — A newly-arrived winter weather system is predicted to dump up to 8 inches of snow over New York City until Friday night.
The expected "long duration snowfall" prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory effective Thursday at 4 a.m. until Friday at 7 p.m.
"Snowfall accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected today, with total snowfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches by the end of the event on Friday," the advisory stated Thursday morning.

Fresh snow along with a wave of cancellations and winter preparations greeted New Yorkers as they awoke.
Alternate side parking is suspended until Saturday, as are the city's Open Streets, Open Streets: Restaurants and Open Restaurants roadway dining programs to help crews clear snow. Sidewalk outdoor dining will remain open.

The city's Emergency Management department issued a hazardous travel advisory. Commissioner Deanne Criswell told New Yorkers to prepare for messy road conditions.
"If you must travel, we encourage you to use mass transit and allow for extra time," she said in a statement.

Snow, mainly before 4pm. High near 34. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Northeast wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
Friday Night
A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph.
Saturday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 34. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph.
