NYC's First Murder Of 2024: Man Fatally Stabbed In Queens, Cops Say
Tsering Wangdu, 29, died in a double stabbing early New Year's Day that left his friend, 30, in critical condition, police said.

NEW YORK CITY — A man knifed during a double stabbing in Queens a few hours after the ball dropped became New York City's first murder victim of 2024, police said.
Tsering Wangdu, 29, died after being stabbed in the leg outside a bar in Jackson Heights, authorities said. His friend, 30, remains in critical condition after being stabbed in the chest, NYPD officials said.
The incident unfolded about 4 a.m., just a few hours after Times Square revelers watched the Ball Drop, police said.

Wangdu and his 30-year-old friend were kicked out of a bar near 76th Street and Roosevelt Avenue after they got into an argument with another patron, the New York Post first reported.
The fight moved outside and escalated to the point that the bar patron stabbed both Wangdu and Wangdu's friend, the Post reported.

Medics rushed Wangdu and his friend to Elmhurst hospital after the knifing, police said. Wangdu died Monday about 12 hours after he was stabbed in the leg, the Post reported.
The slasher remains on the loose, police said.
