NYPD Suspends Officer Who Shot Man In Head While Off-Duty

The man shot on Monday remains in critical condition.

NEW YORK CITY — The NYPD has suspended an officer who shot a man in the head in an off-duty shooting in the Bronx on Monday.

The incident happened outside 167 W. 231st St. in the Bronx around 9 p.m.

According to police, the officer confronted several men about a stolen car.

The officer has been identified as 44-year-old Jonathan Baez, according to Gothamist.

Baez fired his weapon and shot a 30-year-old man in the head.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Additional details into the shooting have not been released.
