Pics: Ukrainian Soldier Who Lost Legs In Combat Runs Central Park Race
Artem Moroz, a former soldier in the Ukrainian Army, led nearly 8,000 runners in a New York City race Sunday.
NEW YORK CITY — A Ukrainian soldier who lost both his legs in combat last year raced through Central Park this weekend, cheered on by New York City.
Artem Moroz was one of 8,000 who joined the New York Road Runners' lung cancer awareness race Sunday, about six months after a land mine injury required the amputation of both his legs, the group announced.
Moroz had been an avid runner before he was wounded in Russia's war in Ukraine, and has returned to running to aid in his recovery.

The former soldier ran on prosthetics funded by Revived Soldiers Ukraine, a nonprofit that also helped get him to the start line.
Moroz ran to honor Ukrainian soldiers, his 14-year-old daughter and his 6-year-old son back home, running officials said.
