Poster House Presents First Friday On July 7

Join Poster House on the First Friday of July for free museum admission & extended hours

Poster House, the first museum in the United States dedicated to the global history of posters, will host its monthly “First Friday” event on July 7, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Poster House, 119 West 23rd Street in Manhattan.Poster House will be offering free admission and extended hours for guests to explore the museum’s latest exhibitions.

Poster House’s First Fridays feature unique opportunities such as tours, workshops, performances, and activities, to further engage visitors with the rotating exhibitions and the permanent collection. This July, celebrate Disability Pride Month at Poster House with any of our disability centered offerings!

  • 1:00 PM : Join Sarit Cahana, Poster House Accessibility Coordinator, in conversation with Kirsten Sweeney, Accessibility & Inclusion Manager at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and Kemi Sijuwade-Ukadike, Head of Artist Initiatives and Inclusion at Eyebeam for an engaging conversation on the important relationship between disability pride and disability justice.
  • 2:00 PM: Artist and educator Sato Yamamoto will host a hands-on linocut printing workshop where participants will learn the basics of this modern printing technique while creating their own print.
  • 4:00 PM: Screening of the Crip Camp documentary – the film tells the story of Camp Jened, a summer camp for people with disabilities, and the role the camp played in spurring the 1990 passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • 5:00 PM: Poster House will welcome New York City Black Deaf Advocates for a D/deaf and hard-of-hearing mixer at Café des Affiches to mingle in a Deaf/hard-of-hearing affirming environment.
  • 7:00 PM: Filmmaker, artist, and comedian, Carrie Hawks will stop by Poster House for a hilariously off-beat comedy set, recounting the relief of their autism diagnosis, delve into the mysteries of bathroom lines, and more!
  • 7:15 PM: Poster House is pleased to welcome Stella Rise, New York City’s premiere disabled drag queen, to the museum for a special performance!

Free tickets can be reserved online in advance of July 7th. During normal hours, tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students, veterans, and seniors. Poster House offers free museum admission through the New York City’s public library Culture Pass system.
