'Road Rage' In Lower Manhattan Leaves 6 Hurt, NYPD Says

TRIBECA, NY – A "serious" collision in Tribeca injured six people on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Police are currently investigating the crash as a road rage-related incident, officials said at press briefing after the crash.

The collision happened at Broadway and Liberty Street around 1:20 p.m. None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening, an FDNY spokesman told Patch. Police said that two pedestrians, two drivers and one cyclist were injured and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Two people were in custody for questioning on Thursday afternoon, and at least one of them was a driver in the incident, police said. According to the initial investigation, a Lincoln Continental was driving east on Liberty Street when it struck a Ford Explorer near Broadway. The Lincoln Continental continued east for another block before it rear ended a second car and came to a stop on the sidewalk.

A crumpled bicycle could be seen under the wheels of a black SUV at the scene.

Police said the area was shut off to traffic. In a tweet the NYPD's First Precinct said there, "The area of Broadway & Liberty is completely safe. We have traffic closed in all directions."
