See It: NYPD Officer Attacked In Bronx Amid Overnight Unrest

NEW YORK, NEW YORK — A viral video shows a lone NYPD officer thrown to the ground and attacked in the Bronx amid unrest Monday night over the killing of George Floyd.

The Sergeants Benevolent Association, a prominent police union, shared the video with a pointed message toward critics of police force.

"NYPD Cops defend yourselves, you are alone!" the union's Twitter post read.

The video shows the officer on the ground scuffling with a man while another suspect runs up and throws some type of box-like object at him. Another man runs up and again throws the box before the officer gets up, gun in hand. The suspects scatter while the officer manages to get up.

All the while, the people recording the video shout "F--- 12" — an anti-police saying.

About 1.5 million people watched the video as of Tuesday morning. Senator Marco Rubio shared it on Twitter, claiming the attackers were dressed like "Communist anarchist 'Black Bloc' terrorists." Only one attacker was dressed in black and many protesters don that color without political affiliation.

The attack unfolded on a night in which looters targeted Midtown stores, thousands of peaceful protesters massed in Brooklyn, a curfew was in effect in New York City and President Donald Trump vowed to send the military to areas of unrest — and had troops attack peaceful protesters to clear his way for a photo opportunity at a church.
