Selfhelp Reacts to Dismantling of Administration for Community Living

Selfhelp Community Services provides affordable housing, home care, and community-based services to 25,000 individuals annually.

Selfhelp Community Services issues the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Stuart C. Kaplan in response to the dismantling of the Administration for Community Living (ACL) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and its impact on older adults and people with disabilities:

“The dismantling of the ACL threatens the dignity and independence of older adults and people with disabilities, undermining the support they rely on. At Selfhelp, we believe that all adults deserve to age with dignity and independence. The ACL has been instrumental in supporting this mission through programs like Older Adult Centers, Meals on Wheels, and caregiver support.

The restructuring must continue to fund the vital programs in communities like ours that care for the people who have contributed to our society for decades and now rely on these essential services. We thank our New York City, State, and Federal representatives who are standing up for the millions of older adults who rely on these critical community services."
