Snow, Cold Rain Blows Into NYC: What To Expect From Wintry Mix
New York City is under a winter weather advisory Tuesday as an inch of snow is predicted to fall before giving way to freezing rain.
NEW YORK CITY — Snow, sleet, freezing and plain old rain are all in New York City's forecast as a wintry weather system bears down on the city.
The city is under a winter weather advisory Tuesday from 7 a.m. to midnight, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast predicts an almost hour-by-hour change up of cold, wet precipitation.

"Mixed precipitation expected," the advisory state. "Total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze."
The winter blast will start with snow and sleet before 2 p.m., then move to snow with a potential touch of freezing rain and slate, according to the forecast. The chance of precipitation stands at 80 percent, while temperatures will hover steady at 33 degrees.

Falling snow will give way to rain before midnight, the forecast states.
New York City's Emergency Management Department issued a travel advisory for the day, warning of difficulties during the morning and evening commutes.
“We are expecting a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow that will cause messy road conditions on Tuesday,” Deanne Criswell, the city's emergency management commissioner, said in a statement. “We urge all New Yorkers to exercise caution. If you must travel, consider using public transportation and allow for extra travel time.”

Snow and sleet likely before 2pm, then snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain and sleet. Steady temperature around 33. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. East wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday Night
Rain before midnight, then showers likely between midnight and 1am, then a chance of rain after 1am. Low around 35. East wind 7 to 11 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Wednesday
A chance of rain before 8am, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. North wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Wednesday Night
A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. North wind 10 to 14 mph.
Thursday
A 20 percent chance of snow before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 35. Breezy, with a north wind 16 to 22 mph.
