Staten Island Chuck Makes Groundhog Day Prediction For 2020
The furry forecaster emerged from his burrow Sunday morning.

STATEN ISLAND, NY — The winter could be over before it's even really begun. Staten Island's groundhog Chuck woke from his slumber Sunday and failed to see his shadow.
Under Groundhog Day lore, that means an early spring is on its way — despite this winter so far being relatively mild and snow-free.
The furry meteorologist made his prediction at Staten Island Zoo, watched by a crowd of New Yorkers and accompanied by city council speak Corey Johnson.

The prognosticator, who boasts a higher accuracy rating than his more famous rival Punxsutawney Phil, called for the early spring for the fifth year in a row. This is his 39th forecast.
His prediction was matched by his Pennsylvania rival, which also failed to see a shadow Sunday.

Chuck survived another Groundhog Day unharmed as de Blasio skipped the ceremony for the fifth year in a row.
During his first Groundhog Day ceremony in 2014, de Blasio dropped Chuck — later revealed to be a stand-in called Charlotte — when he took her out of the burrow. She died a week later from internal injuries.
