Staten Island Fire: 1 Dead, 9 Injured In 3-Alarm Blaze, FDNY says

STATEN ISLAND, NY — One man was killed and five people were sent to the hospital after a fire engulfed a home Thursday morning on Staten Island, a spokeswoman for the FDNY told Patch. Ten people in total were injured during the three-alarm blaze, including two firefighters, the spokeswoman told Patch.

One of the five people sent to the hospital one — a 69-year-old man — was in critical condition after suffering burns to the body. He was sent to Staten Island North University Medical Center Burn Unit, according to the NYPD.

The other four people — a 12-year-old girl, a 43-year-old man, a 26-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy — were transported to Richmond University Medical Center in stable condition for smoke inhalation and minor injuries, according to the NYPD.

Thirty-three units responded to the scene of the fire on Post Avenue, between Port Richmond and Heberton avenues, around 7 a.m. and had the blaze under control by 9:20 a.m., fire officials told Patch. A little more than 130 firefighters responded to the scene of the fire, an FDNY spokeswoman said.

The city's fire marshal had not determined the cause of the fire by 5 p.m. Thursday.
