Stop & Shop Donates $10K to Create IN-Tech Academy School Food Pantry

Donation Will Provide Food and Other Essentials to Students and Families Facing Food Insecurity

Stop & Shop today announced a $10,000 donation to IN-Tech Academy (M.S. / High School 368) to aid in the creation of an on-campus school food pantry. This grant will assist IN-Tech Academy in providing nutritious options and basic necessities to students in needs statewide. This new pantry is part of The Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program, a larger initiative that supports more than 100 in-school pantries across five states to help ensure that no student has to go to school hungry.

“So many members of our communities face the challenges of food insecurity. This burden is especially heavy for many students and families,” shares Charlie Reda, Store Manager of Stop & Shop on Broadway in The Bronx. “The Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program is proud to support IN-Tech, and we hope that this donation will help to alleviate some of that burden and ensure students have access to food so they can succeed in the classroom.”

Stop & Shop’s donation will benefit IN-Tech Academy students in need by offering them food and other essentials through the new on-campus school food pantry. IN-Tech Academy serves nearly 1,000 students, with the majority receiving free and reduced meals daily with the need among students and families at IN-Tech continuing to increase.

The COVID-19 pandemic has only increased the need faced by students and their families, making it more severe than ever. Because of the high need among students at IN-Tech Academy, the Stop & Shop School Food Pantry operation will focus on providing nutritious options to students. Stop & Shop will also aid students with nutrition education and other resources through its Nutrition Partners program, led by Stop & Shop’s team of registered dietitians.

“The partnership opportunity we have with Stop and Shop will provide our families with quality of life and basic needs. The resources available in our pantry are what our families need to function. Food availability and access should not be restricted,” said IN-Tech Academy Principal David Weissberg. “Living in one of the most populated cities in America doesn't mean that access to healthy food is guaranteed. Allowing our school community to have access to our pantry will provide peace of mind. This is an amazing way to build community and to let families know that IN-Tech Academy is here for them.”
