Storm Threat Peaks Midweek In NYC

NEW YORK, NY— Monday and Tuesday's cooler summer temperatures, in the high 60s and early 70s, will give way to a warmer and more unsettled pattern across the New York City region, with the highest risk for showers and thunderstorms arriving Thursday.

Sunshine and low humidity will dominate through much of Wednesday morning before a weak warm front approaches the area.

The National Weather Service reported scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm to develop during the afternoon, with the greatest chance of rain north and west of New York City.

The weather threat increases Thursday as moisture and warmer air move into the region. The National Weather Service forecasts showers throughout the day and the potential for thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

Wind gusts could reach 28 mph.

Thursday also stands as the warmest day of the week.

Temperatures in New York City could climb into the upper 80s or approach 90 degrees, while humidity levels rise noticeably.

Forecasters expect improving conditions by Friday as sunshine returns and temperatures settle closer to seasonal averages, with gusts near 20 mph possible Friday and Saturday.

The outlook remains favorable heading into the Juneteenth holiday and much of the weekend, with drier conditions and periods of sunshine expected after the midweek storm threat passes.
