NEW YORK CITY — Wiping out subway pooping is apparently a pressing need for MTA board officials.

A new rule change before the transit board Wednesday officially adds “defecating” to a list of banned unsanitary activities in and on the city’s subways and buses.

If approved, it would be the number two item on the list — the rule would state no person should create an unsanitary condition by “spitting, defecating, or urinating, except in the facilities provided.”

The cleanliness of subways never got high marks from New Yorkers and has become more of an issue as the coronavirus pandemic struck.

Officials rousted homeless people from subway cars — which were often soiled — in the early days of the crisis. Afterward, MTA workers began nightly cleaning and disinfection protocols to help slow the coronavirus’ spread and reassure traveling on subways is safe.
