The Dailymeal has released a list of "America's 50 best French Fries for 2018" – and crowns the famed Soho bistro Balthazar for serving the best in the whole country.
But after Balthazar, the food website said another eight city spots are worth visiting, with all of them taking slots in the top half of the list.

The Burger Joint might not have French fries in its name, but that doesn't stop the restaurant's thin, super-crispy fries, which are served in classic paper bags, from being some of the best in the United States.
#19 P.J Clarke's (915 Third Ave)
The oldest location on the list, P.J Clarke's has been serving up great food since 1887. While the restaurant has a long storied history of celebrity patrons, including Frank Sinatra and Jackie Kennedy, the ownership wants to focus on the more simple things.
"We could talk for hours about our history, our star-studded cast of diners, blah blah blah. But, for now, that's beside the point. Grab yourself a stool at the bar and order a cold one," it reads on their website.
The French fries are served shoe string styled, which are then cooked to golden perfection with a simple seasoning of salt.
#18 A Salt & Battery (Greenwich Ave)
Known as one of the best fish and chips spots in the United States, A Salt & Battery has mastered the art of the French fry (chip).
The restaurant looks to "bring the best of Britain's traditional fish and chips culture" to New York. The chips are chunky, thick-cut, mismatched, golden brown and perfectly crisp. It's highly recommended to stay away from dumping ketchup all over them and instead use malt vinegar.
#13 db Bistro Moderne (55 W 44th St)
Chef Boulud's famed Bistro Moderne features updated bistro classics with a modern twist and market-driven French-American cuisine, according to its website.
The French fries are skinny, shoestring-styled that are well salted and piled high in a silver cone. The fries come with three sauces: mayonnaise with horseradish, spicy Dijon mustard, and ketchup.
#11 Minetta Tavern (113 Macdougal St)
Originally opened in 1937, the longtime staple of lower Manhattan was the former stomping ground of the likes of Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, E.E Cummings and Dylan Thomas. It has continued producing exceptional cuisine.
The French fries go through quite a process before seeing the table. First they're cut the day before and soaked in water overnight to extract the starch, next the raw fries are dried and blanched in peanut oil over low heat until they're fully cooked. After resting, right before they leave the kitchen, they're fried for just a few moments in hot oil to achieve a lovely golden hue before being generously salted, according to Dailymeal.
#7 The Spotted Pig (314 W 11th St)
April Bloomfield's trailblazing West Village gastropub is home to some of the best French fries in the country. Served in an enormous pile, the thin and crispy fries are paired with rosemary and garlic, which are put with them in the deep frier.
It's highly recommended that you combine the succulent fries with the equally famed Spotted Pig hamburger.
#6 Pommes Frites (128 Macdougal St)
Pommes Frites is the first speciality shop to make an appearance in New York. The shop hones in on producing the best French fries imaginable and uses a culinary trick to secure exactly that.
The potatoes are fried twice. The first time they are cooked through in vegetable oil, and then a second time to provide the golden color to make them deliciously crisp. The fries are paired with an assortment of sauces, including: European mayo, peanut satay, Mexican ketchup, Vietnamese pineapple mayo, sambal oelek, and Irish curry sauce.
#4 The Breslin Bar & Dining Room (16 West 29th St)
Chef April Bloomfield makes her second appearance on the list with this funky gastropub. The fries here are British-style chip.
Served alongside a tasty cumin mayo, the French fries don't need any gimmicks to stand out, just a focus on the potato at the center of the action.
#1 Balthazar (80 Spring St)
The Michelin Guide-recommended restaurant opened its doors in spring of 1997 and has been serving incredibe French-styled bistro food since.
A signature item on the menu is the steak frites, which comes served alongside the number one ranked French fries in the entire country. The thin-cut, golden brown fries are light, airy, and incredibly easy to work through in a sitting.
