These NYC Movie Theaters Are Ranked Among The World's Best: See Where

NEW YORK CITY — Four movie theaters in New York City have been ranked among the world's best, according to a recently released top 100 list.

A renowned movie theater in Manhattan managed to crack the top three of Time Out's top 100 list.

The Film Forum ranked third on the list with the outlet calling the theater "New York’s premiere independent, nonprofit cinema."

The Film Forum has been open for half a century and has four screens showcasing a mix of American indie premieres, foreign art films, genre works, directors’ retrospectives and special programming.

The next New York City movie theater to make the list was Village East by Angelika at number 13.

The theater is known for its screenings of limited-release pictures, foreign cinema films and 70mm screenings like Sinners, One Battle After Another and The Testament of Ann Lee. They are also one of the first theaters to screen anime films.

Its sister location, Angelika Theater came in 39th place on the list.

A staple in the Lower East Side, Metrograph ranked as the 23rd best cinema in the world.

Metrograph is known for its curated programming including 35mm and 16mm screenings, archival films and rare international titles.

The BAM Rose Cinemas in Fort Greene made the list at number 55. According to the outlet, the Rose is, simply, a classic with no assigned seats, just a ticket line, a candy-and-popcorn counter, dark screening rooms and excellent sound.

"Part of Brooklyn’s grand old arts centre, it’s a place to see movies the way they’re meant to be seen: all thrills, no frills," Time Out's Phil de Semlyen wrote.
