Brooklyn Mall Shooting: 3 Arrested, 2 Teens Wounded, NYPD Says
A fight in a Mill Basin sneaker store escalated to an active shooter incident inside Kings Plaza Shopping Center, police said.

NEW YORK CITY — An argument inside a Brooklyn mall ended in a hail of gunfire that left two teens wounded and police scrambling to respond to an active shooter, police said.
Three men were arrested after the Monday incident at Kings Plaza Shopping Center in Mill Basin, said Chief Michael Kemper, who commands Patrol Borough Brooklyn South.
The shooting in a high-end sneaker store prompted several 911 calls about an active shooter inside a mall, Kemper said.

“I would categorize it as outrageous behavior,” he said about the incident.
Police said Timothy Briggs, 19, of the Bronx, fired off at least 10 shots.

Bullets hit a 14-year-old boy in the leg and grazed a 16-year-old boy, Kemper said. The younger teen was whisked away to Maimonides Medical Center, and both boys appear likely to survive, he said.
The boys were part of group of six people who entered a sneaker store, where another group of three men were shopping, Kemper said.
The two groups began to argue, he said.
“During the course of the dispute, one of three males who was standing by the store’s cash register pulled out a gun and fired several rounds toward a group of six males striking the 14-year-old male and the 16-year-old male,” Kemper said.
The three men ran from the mall, but were quickly spotted and stopped by NYPD officers, Kemper said.
Briggs and another man — Jaheim Covington, 19 — had guns, Kemper said.
And it's not the first time police found Briggs and Covington with guns, authorities said.
Briggs was out on bail after a November arrest in which cops found he had four guns, Kemper said.
“When you look at his history, he is known to us,” he said.
Likewise, Covington awaits sentencing on a 2019 shooting, Kemper said.
Briggs, Covington and a third man — Omarion Harvey, 18 — were arrested, authorities said.
Cops requested two counts of attempted murder against Briggs, in addition to counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm, criminal use of a gun and reckless endangerment, police said.
Covington faces firearms-related charges, including possession of a large capacity ammo feeding device, authorities said.
Harvey faces requested charges of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, police said.
Kemper said police are investigating whether the dispute and shooting was gang-related.
“It could potentially be gang, but as of right now I can’t lock myself into saying it’s definitively gang-related,” he said.
