Thunderstorms Hit NYC Before Sudden Temperature Crash

NEW YORK, NY— Warm air and scattered showers will give way to a sharp midweek cooldown before milder temperatures return in time for the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

A spot shower may pass through early, followed by breaks in the clouds and intervals of sun. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the upper 70s, though conditions will vary sharply by location.

Communities along south-facing shorelines will remain significantly cooler, with temperatures near 50 degrees along the immediate coast and 60s just inland as winds move in off colder ocean water.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to redevelop Wednesday, with activity possible in both the morning and afternoon.

Clouds may briefly break between rounds, allowing for limited sunshine as temperatures again climb into the upper 70s.

A pronounced shift arrives Thursday, when temperatures drop by as much as 20 to 25 degrees. Highs will struggle to reach the 50s under cloudy, damp conditions.

Clouds linger into Friday morning before gradually breaking. Conditions are expected to improve by the afternoon, with temperatures rising into the 60s and possibly near 70 degrees as sunshine returns in time for the home opener at Yankee Stadium.

The weekend forecast trends milder, with highs reaching the upper 60s to low 70s. Saturday is expected to bring partly sunny skies, while Sunday could see afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures are forecast to dip again heading into Monday, with cooler conditions returning despite sunshine.
