NEW YORK, NY — The Tony Awards were back. Marquee lights shined bright at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday night as Broadway stars came out to celebrate this season's diverse nominees and shows.

During the pandemic, it seemed as if Broadway would never be back in the same capacity it once was, as hundreds of actors and stagehands scrambled for work. By the time the ceremony came to a close, those fears seemed put to rest.

Host Ariana DeBose, who recently won an Oscar for her work in Spielberg's "West Side Story" remake, took to the stage with confidence and ease, bringing back as much normalcy to the night as many hoped for. However, even though nominees sitting in the orchestra were able to attend maskless, after submitting a negative COVID-19 test, those in the balcony still had the mandate.

Among top nods, "A Strange Loop" won the coveted best new musical award, beating out “Six: The Musical” and "MJ." The revival of "Company" swept many of the other major categories, with Patti LuPone winning best featured actress and Matt Doyle winning best featured actor. The show also won best director and best revival.
