Upper West Side Seniors Celebrate Hanukkah at The New Jewish Home

Volunteers come from across NYC to help light 16 menorahs

Faced with the gargantuan task of having to oversee 128 separate Hanukkah menorah lightings at the 16-floor West Side nursing home run by The New Jewish Home (every floor has a menorah, multiplied by the eight nights of Hanukkah), tech-savvy Rabbi Jonathan Malamy, Director of Religious Life there, has turned to social media and the kindness of strangers for the solution.

Using Facebook, Rabbi Malamy is spreading the word and the need for volunteers – nationwide – and is keeping this special holiday tradition alive for the more than 500 residents of this senior housing facility.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the one of the remaining nights of Hanukkah can submit their information here: https://goo.gl/forms/SV9o3X4HYwRurGk42
