NEW YORK CITY — An attacker pummeled, kicked and — to add insult to injury — threw a cupful of liquid at a 77-year-old man with a cane in The Bronx, police said.

Video released by NYPD officials shows the violent assault Monday, which sent the elderly man to the hospital, authorities said.

The incident began about 1:30 p.m. in front of 1299 Grand Concourse, near East 169th street, when the two men began arguing, police said.

The man with the cane appears to animatedly talking before the as-yet-unidentified assailant punches him in the face and knocks him to the ground, the video shows.

The attacker then throws a cupful of liquid at the man's head and kicks his head, the video shows. The man told police that the attacker then tried to rob him, but was unsuccessful, authorities said.
