NEW YORK CITY — Few things say "New York City" like the bodega.

Bleary-eyed after a wild night and in need of greasy sustenance? Your local bodega will have an egg-and-cheese ready within minutes.

Out of toilet paper at 3 a.m.? The bodega has you, and your tush, covered.

Do you often find yourself thinking, "This would be better with a cat?" Not at the bodega.

"There’s nothing like walking into the bodega, grabbing an iced cafecito, chopping it up with everyone behind the counter + appreciating the dude who’s blasting 'Oye Como Va' through his backpack speaker," as one Twitter user put it.

"In this small moment, nothing else matters. Today is a good day."

To honor the bodega's humble greatness, Patch is launching a monthlong competition to find the best bodega in New York City.

Each week, we'll explore a specific quality that raises up the bodega experience. You, hopefully, will tell us which does it best.
