Warm Spring Weather Coming To NYC: Old Farmers' Almanac
Get ready for balmy spring and hot summer, New Yorkers — if the almanac can be believed.
NEW YORK CITY — Expect warmer-than-normal weather when spring hits New York City — or so says the Old Farmers' Almanac.
The venerable almanac's spring 2022 forecast calls for balmy temperatures not just in the Big Apple, but across the United States, except in the desert Southwest and Florida.
The long-range forecast for the region covering New York City calls for weather on the hotter side.

"April and May will be warmer than normal, with rainfall near normal in the north and below normal in the south," the almanac states. "Summer will be hotter and slightly drier than normal, with the hottest periods in mid-June and early to mid-July, from late July into early August, and in late August."
Forecasts from the almanac — or its rival, the Farmers' Almanac — aren't necessarily respected by meteorologists, but are still a widely held literal seasonal tradition.

It's a tradition that returns around the first day of spring, which is Sunday, March 20. But that day is often an extension of winter — meteorological spring is what counts when it comes to getting outside, especially when people get an extra hour of sunlight when daylight saving time begins.
The Farmers' Almanac — which, again, is separate from the Old Farmers' Almanac — called for unseasonably cold temperatures on the first day of spring in its seasonal outlook.
New York City likely will see warm-to-hot temperatures through the summer, the Old Farmers' Almanac predicts.
Here are its predictions for specific dates in March and April.
Temperatures in March are expected to average 49 degrees, which is 5 above normal. Total precipitation is predicted to be 5 inches — about 2 inches above average.
- Mar 10-16 — Heavy snow, then rain north; rain south
- Mar 17-19 — Sunny, cold
- Mar 20-24 — Showers, warm

The almanac predicts April temperatures will be 57 degrees on average, about 5 above normal. Precipitation is expected to be 2.5 inches, about 1 inch below average.
