What’s Open, Closed Christmas Day 2020 In NYC
It might be too late to mail that late-minute Christmas present. Find out who's shutting their doors for the holidays in the five boroughs.

NEW YORK CITY — More places than ever were closed in New York City during 2020 — and its coronavirus Christmas will no exception.
The city that never sleeps will be sleepier Friday than past Christmases, thanks to pandemic restrictions and closures.
You can safely assume pretty much everything will be closed, but, if in doubt, check this round up for government offices, transit and retailers on Dec. 25.

Government Buildings And Banks
- City, state and federal offices will be closed on Christmas Day.
- Post offices will be closed. Regular mail will not be delivered.
- Many banks will be open on Christmas Eve, but closed on Christmas Day as it's a federal holiday.
Libraries are on a slightly-different page because of pandemic restrictions. Many branches, such as those covered by New York Public Library, have switched to grab-and-go service.

All New York Public Library grab-and-go locations will be closed from Thursday until Dec. 27. Likewise, Brooklyn Public Library branches will be closed Thursday and Friday, whether they offer lobby or grab-and-go service.
Queens Public Library branches offering to-go service will be open Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All Queens libraries will then close for Christmas.
Schools
Rejoice, kids. New York City public schools are closed for winter recess from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1.
Parking
Good news if you own a car — you won’t have to rush out Christmas morning to move your car.
Alternate-side parking rules not only are suspended Christmas Day, they’re also suspended the day after.
UPDATE: #NYCASP rules will be suspended through Saturday, December 26 for snow removal. Parking meters will remain in effect.

Public Transportation
- Subways on Christmas will run on a Sunday schedule, according to the MTA. The Staten Island Railway will run on a Saturday schedule. Both will have regular weekday service on Thursday.
- Buses will also run on a Sunday schedule during Christmas. Some lines will have reduced service on Thursday.
- LIRR trains will run on a weekend/holiday schedule during Christmas.
- MetroNorth trains will also run on a weekend/holiday schedule during Christmas. Branches east of Hudson will have regular weekend service.
Sanitation
There won’t be any trash or recycling collection on Christmas, so if Friday is your usual day you should put out your garbage after 4 p.m.

Stores
- Trader Joe's: Stores will be closed on Christmas Day and will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
- Whole Foods: Stores in New York City will be closed on Christmas Day and will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
- Costco: Stores will be closed on Christmas Day and close at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve.
- Target: Stores will close at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
