What's Open, Closed On MLK Day 2021 In NYC
Many offices will close and service altered to honor Dr. Martin Luther King.
NEW YORK — Not everybody gets a day off to honor the legacy of one the nation's greatest civil rights leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but even those working will need to adjust their routines at least a little.
Plenty of offices will shut their doors on Monday, Jan. 18. That includes government buildings, post offices and schools. The subway will run its regular schedule.

Government Buildings
- New York City public schools will be closed.
- City, state and federal government buildings, including post offices, will be closed.
- Mail will not be delivered.
- Many banks will likely be closed, as Monday is a U.S. Federal Reserve holiday.
- Libraries will be closed.

Transportation
- New York City subways will run on a regular weekday schedule, while buses will run on a reduced weekday schedule. Use the MTA's Bus Time website or app to check bus service.
Parking
- Alternate-side parking rules will be suspended.
Trash pickup
- Trash, recycling and organics pickup will not occur on Monday.
