New York Yankees Minor League Player Has Coronavirus: Report

The unnamed player was quarantined Friday morning after developing a fever, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

NEW YORK, NY — An unnamed minor league player for the New York Yankees has tested positive for the new coronavirus, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

It is the first known case of the virus in Major League Baseball.

"The Yankees player who tested positive was only on the minor league side of the team's facility in Tampa," Passan also tweeted.

The Yankees were among a collection of teams whose major league players had chosen to stay in camp amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The news out of the Yankees' organization comes three days after the MLB chose to suspend spring training games and delay the start of the 2020 regular season by at least two weeks due to the possible spread of the coronavirus.
