1 Teen Dead, 4 Injured In NY Thruway Crash
Another of the passengers was in critical condition, police said.

CLARKSTOWN, NY — A 19-year-old Spring Valley resident died and another was critically injured in a Sunday morning crash on the New York State Thruway.
The 7:47 a.m. crash apparently occurred when the driver, Alon M. Forbes, 18, of the Bronx, rear-ended another car near the Route 303 interchange and went off the northbound side of I-87 through the guide rail and down a 40-foot embankment, New York State police said.
A back seat passenger, Rashid K. Hopson, 19, of Spring Valley, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rockland County Medical Examiner. The Honda’s front seat passenger, Ashawn Duncan, 18, of Spring Valley, was transported to Nyack Hospital for serious injuries and was in critical condition Sunday afternoon.

Back seat passengers Jasear Hill, 19, of Brooklyn, and Anthony Oranvil, 18, of New City, were both transported to Nyack Hospital for minor injuries and released, police said. Forbes was also transported to Nyack Hospital for minor injuries and has since been released.
Forbes was driving a 2015 Honda Accord when he struck the rear of the 2016 Subaru Outback. The driver of the Subaru, Terri L. Kugler, 59, of Hawthorne, New Jersey, was not injured.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by several first-responder agencies, including Clarkstown Police Department and Fire Department, Troop F BCI and CRU (Collision Reconstruction Unit), Thruway Maintenance and more.
