16-Year-Old Arrested After Cop, K9 Chase In Bardonia

Clarkstown police said the boy had to be restrained by a K9 officer.

BARDONIA, NY — A 16-year-old who ran from police searching for a car reported stolen now faces 17 charges — most of them for violations of the traffic law. Clarkstown police said events began unfolding at about 10:30 p.m., when they were called about a stolen 2014 gray Ford Fusion.

Officers responded to the vicinity of Schweizer Lane and Ludvigh Road, saw the car and tried to stop it. A brief pursuit ensued, police said. It ended near the Nanuet Fire Station.

The driver then ran away toward the railroad track behind the firehouse. Officers created a perimeter, and after a brief search, he was tracked down by K9 Remy. When he would not comply with the officers' commands, he was forcibly restrained by Remy, police said.

Taken into custody, the driver was identified as a 16-year-old Bardonia resident. He will not be identified due to his age, police said. At that age, he is eligible for juvenile status, which can only be granted by a judge.

He was transported to Nyack Hospital for a medical evaluation, police said. After release from Nyack ER, the suspect was transported to police headquarters for processing.

He was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court. Bail was set at $5,000. He will return to court Wednesday, police said.
