25-Year Employee Honored At Sloatsburg Travel Plaza

Laurie Sullivan is one of seven people employed there through The Arc Rockland.

Laurie Sullivan was recognized for 25 years of employment with HMS Host during a recent ceremony at the Travel Plaza on the New York State Thruway. The service award was presented by Robert Woodill, Senior Director Motorways NYS Thruway.

Ms. Sullivan secured her position through The Arc’s Employment Services Department. She works at Sbarros as a dishwasher, and she also performs other tasks in the kitchen.

“Robert Woodill has been a great advocate for the employment of people with disabilities,” noted Kathy Canter, The Arc Rockland Senior Director of Employment Services. "We are proud to count him among the members of The Arc’s Business Advisory Council.”

Ms. Sullivan was joined in celebration by her brother Ed Sullivan, her co-workers and managers at Sbarros, Ms. Canter and Theresa Dos Santos, Assistant Director of Supported Employment.

In presenting the award to Ms. Sullivan, Mr. Woodill said, “You have always been the heart and soul of Sbarros and the Plaza. You bring a lot of energy to the job.”

Mr. Woodill noted that “one of the best things Ms. Sullivan has done in her tenure at the Travel Plaza is bring a lot of other good employees to us through The Arc.”

The Travel Plaza currently employs seven people through The Arc Rockland.

Ms. Sullivan thanked her coworkers. “I love coming to work, “she said. “You are all so nice to me.”

“It was a great morning,” added Ms. Canter. “We are all very proud of Laurie’s accomplishment.”
