48 Tickets For Driver In High-Speed Chase That Started In Rockland

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A pursuit covering 23 miles with a top speed of 100mph began in Rockland County at 2 a.m. Tuesday when New York state troopers patrolling the Palisades Interstate Parkway noticed that a 2021 Nissan-Altima traveling north was in violation of numerous New York State vehicle and traffic laws.

Troopers stopped the car near exit 12 in Ramapo; but as they approached, the driver sped away. They pursued.

The car left the parkway and headed north on the New York State Thruway, then got off on Route 17, then exited at Route 131. The driver lost control of the Nissan and struck a guard rail at the intersection of Nininger Road and County Route 105 in Orange County, state police said.

Troopers identified the driver as Marcus Manigault, 37 of New York City. The passenger was Attley Samuel, 29, of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. They received minor injuries and were treated by Woodbury EMS, then both were taken into custody, police said.

Manigault and Samuel were both charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree: intent to sell, both felonies; plus criminal use of drug paraphernalia 2nd degree, a misdemeanor.

Manigault was additionally charged with two misdemeanors: unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle 3rd degree, and obstruction governmental administration. He was also issued 48 tickets.

Both were transported to Orange County Jail pending arraignment.
