RAMAPO, NY — Not since Pooh got stuck in Rabbit's hole, has a bear's appetite created a predicament that required so many hands to solve.
A lucky bear cub ran back into the woods unharmed Tuesday afternoon after Ramapo Police Department officers responded to Brook Street in Hillburn, and removed a container stuck on its head.
Police said officers arrived soon after receiving a curious report. Working with the caller, officers were able to remove the container safely. The department said the cub was freed from what could have become a dangerous situation.
"This afternoon, Ramapo Police officers responded to Brook Street in Hillburn after receiving a report of a bear cub with a container stuck on its head," the department said in its account of the incident. "Working together with the caller, our officers were able to safely remove the container, freeing the cub from what could have become a dangerous situation."
The department said the cub quickly ran off into the woods, once it was released. No injuries to the animal were reported in the account provided by police, which said the cub was unharmed.
Ramapo police also credited the person who called in the report and helped during the rescue. "We appreciate the caller's vigilance and willingness to assist,” the department said. "Sometimes, a simple phone call can make all the difference, for people and wildlife alike."
The cub was no doubt ready for its next zany adventure.
