SPRING VALLEY, NY — Two men suffered severe stab wounds after being attacked by a large group on Sunday, according to police.
While police have made one arrest, they are asking for tips and still searching for others who were involved.
Detective Sgt. Randy DiPaolo said police went to the intersection of Jay Street and Division Avenue after receiving reports of a large fight.
When police arrived, officers saw a large crowd fleeing the area. The officers then found the two men who had been assaulted, according to DiPaolo.
The two victims had “severe” stab wounds, and one needed a tourniquet to control the bleeding, police said.
Officers found one suspect at the scene, identified as Diego Huerta, 18, of South Spring Valley. According to police, Huerta and multiple unknown suspects assaulted one of the victims by striking him over the head with a glass bottle, and using a sharp-edged weapon to stab him. The attack happened in front of that victim’s three young children and family members, police said.
Both victims are expected to make a full recovery, police said.
Huerta was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree gang assault, second-degree assault, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The investigation is ongoing. The Spring Valley Police Department is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 845-356-7400 or at tips@villagespringvalley.org.
