RAMAPO, NY — Ramapo police arrested three New Jersey residents after multiple reports that pedestrians in Monsey and Airmont were struck by eggs thrown from a passing vehicle.
Officers responded Sunday, at around 10:30 p.m., to locations in Monsey and Airmont after receiving multiple reports of the egg-related incidents. No injuries were reported as a result of the egg-throwing, according to police.
Over the next several days, the Ramapo Police Department Investigations Division conducted what the department described as a thorough follow-up investigation. Investigators used witness accounts, license plate reader technology, and security camera footage to identify a suspect vehicle from New Jersey and determine the identities of the people inside.
On Thursday, police arrested three occupants of the vehicle, according to the department. Those arrested were identified only by age and state of residence: an 18-year-old male resident of New Jersey; a 17-year-old male resident of New Jersey; and a 15-year-old male resident of New Jersey.
In connection with three separate incidents, each defendant was charged with three counts of second-degree harassment, a violation under New York State Penal Law.
"The Ramapo Police Department thanks the community for their cooperation and reminds residents that reporting suspicious activity plays a vital role in keeping our neighborhoods safe," the department said, announcing the arrests.
