Celebrating the People Who Keep Rockland Running

As we mark Labor Day and the unofficial end of summer, I want to take this opportunity to recognize the hardworking men and women who keep Rockland County moving forward each and every day.

Labor Day was born out of the fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and reasonable hours. Today, it remains an important reminder that behind every successful organization, business, community, and government are people whose hard work makes that success possible.

That is certainly true here in Rockland County.

Our County workforce is made up of thousands of dedicated public servants who often work behind the scenes, without recognition or fanfare, to serve our residents.

They maintain our roads and infrastructure, care for our most vulnerable residents, protect public health, respond when emergencies strike, support our veterans and seniors, keep our buses moving, preserve our parks, safeguard our communities, and deliver countless other services that Rockland families rely on every day.

Some are on the front lines. Others work quietly behind the scenes. But every one of them plays a role in keeping this County running. Over the last several years, Rockland County has accomplished things that once seemed impossible including:

·Eliminated a $138 million deficit

·Eliminated the Residential Energy Tax & Motor Vehicle Registration Tax

·Got rid of the Energy Tax, equivalent to an 8.4% county property tax cut

·No County Property Tax increases in five years, in fact cut them 4%

·Earned the highest credit ratings in our County's history and statewide

Those are only a fraction of our accomplishments which did not happen because of any one person. They happened because we have talented, hardworking employees who take pride in serving the people of Rockland County and understand the responsibility that comes with public service.

Their work matters, and I could not be prouder of what we have accomplished together.

So, as we enjoy this Labor Day, I encourage everyone to remember the people behind the public service work we depend on every day.

And to our Rockland County employees in particular: thank you. Thank you for your dedication, your professionalism, and your commitment to the people we serve. The progress we have made as a County reflects your hard work, and I am incredibly proud to have you on our team.
