Join us at Cropsey Community Farm for our first event of the season- Spring Sip &amp; Stem: Passover &amp; Easter Edition! This relaxed and creative evening invites guests to design their own floral centerpieces for the holiday table using fresh flowers harvested straight from our fields.
Enjoy wine and artisanal charcuterie provided by Social Snacker; featuring a beautifully curated charcuterie cart where guests can select the most delicious bites.
Our skilled staff will guide you step-by-step through the floral design process, making this event welcoming and enjoyable for all experience levels.
(This event will take place in our heated greenhouse workshop space.)

Alison Duke, June 2024, 98 min Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam” has been part of our collective consciousness for over 40 years, but what do we really know about her?
This fun, inspirational documentary showcases Sister Nancy's resilience through dynamic tour performances, interviews, archival footage, and reenactments. In an industry notorious for silencing female artists, Sister Nancy is hell-bent on empowering others with her music and knowledge to make a difference—proving that good music can't be stopped!Alison Duke is an award-winning writer / producer / director and passionate artistic activist committed to boldly telling stories of resistance and change. Recently, she co-wrote and co-produced the television documentary Mr. Jane and Finch directed by Ngardy Conteh George which garnered two 2020 Canadian Screen Awards: the Donald Britain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary, and Best Writing for a Documentary. During the same timeframe, she directed Cool Black North,&nbsp;a two-hour television documentary special for CityTV/Rogers about the unique and vibrant Canadian Black Community and its role in our country’s contemporary identity. <h2>BUBBLING BABY</h2>
Sharine Rijsenburg, 2025, 19 mins.Sharine Rijsenburg&nbsp;is a creative researcher and visual anthropologist based in Rotterdam. She combines explorations of socio-political issues with engaging storytelling. Her work demonstrates her practice of delving into Dutch and Caribbean archives to investigate the relationship between (self)image, representation, and colonial history.A short documentary by Sharine Rijsenburg exploring the rich history and cultural significance of bubbling music, a genre that originated in the 1980s within Caribbean-Dutch communities, particularly among Surinamese and Antillean youth in Rotterdam, The Hague, and Amsterdam. DJ Moortje, a Dutch-Caribbean DJ of Curaçaoan descent, is often credited as the pioneer of bubbling. In 1986, he accidentally played a dancehall record at an accelerated tempo in a Rotterdam club. Instead of stopping the track, the crowd responded enthusiastically, dancing in a new, quick, jerking style that became associated with bubbling.
<h2>Spiritual Cyphers: HIP-HOP AND THE CHURCH</h2>

Ariyan Johnson shares her personal journey about the struggles and triumphs of her two conflicting loves, Hip-Hop and the Church. Through research and interviews with pastors, historians, artists, and pioneering women hip hop dance artists who stood in the gap to fight against gender biases, the film explores the burgeoning industry of Hip-Hop, and not only her own and the women’s challenge for acceptance within the Church, but also Hip-Hop.&nbsp;Ariyan Johnson, a native New Yorker, is a graduate from the “Fame” La Guardia High School of Music &amp; Art and Performing Arts where she studied dance, she holds a B.A. in Speech Pathology and Audiology and an M.A. in Applied Theatre. Ariyan creates strong female perspectives within the African Diaspora culture specializing in theatrical methods and Hip Hop, Jazz, Afro-Fusion Modern, and African dance forms. She is a multi-disciplinary artist, known for her Independent Spirit Award best female lead nominated performance in the Sundance Special Jury Prize Awarded film - Just Another Girl on the I.R.T., where she represented Hip Hop female dance duos. Some other credits include Law and Order; J.A.G.; The General’s Daughter with John Travolta; Bulworth with Warren Beatty and Halle Berry, where she depicted a rapper influencing Hip Hop culture on the political landscape; and a series regular on The Steve Harvey Show. Johnson’s voice-over work includes cartoons, radio, and television campaigns.&nbsp;

SILENT VOICES UNITED INC. TO EXPAND READQUEST FREE BOOK PROGRAM IN SEPTEMBER 2026
Expanded initiative will distribute thousands of brand-new books and help organizations create free community libraries
NEW YORK, NY — Silent Voices United Inc. will expand its ReadQuest Free Book Program in September 2026, providing thousands of brand-new books to children, families, seniors and underserved communities throughout New York City and beyond. The program will also support organizations seeking to establish or expand free libraries.
Led by Executive Director Tiffany Fulton, ReadQuest will serve childcare centers, schools, youth programs, senior centers, hospitals, clinics, prisons, halfway houses, nonprofits and other community organizations. Participating groups may receive brand-new books at no cost for distribution to the people they serve.
“Books educate, inspire and open doors to new possibilities,” said Fulton. “Our mission is to make sure they reach the communities that need them most. Every book represents knowledge, hope and an opportunity for a brighter future.”
Beginning in September, ReadQuest Community Book Fairs will be held Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Center for Community Enrichment at Canaan Baptist Church of Christ, 125 West 115th Street in Harlem. Selections will include children’s books, fiction, nonfiction, history, business, cookbooks, fantasy, thrillers, puzzles, arts and crafts, and more. All books will be brand new and free of charge.
Volunteers are needed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to sort, organize and pack books. Individuals, families, students, community groups and organizations are welcome.
ReadQuest is supported by Canaan Baptist Church of Christ, which provides space for book storage and distribution; CMS, which assists with transportation; and major publishing partners, which provide brand-new books.
Organizations interested in receiving books or starting a free community library may apply through Silent Voices United Inc. ReadQuest distributes brand-new books only and does not accept used-book donations. All books must be distributed free of charge and may not be sold. Recipients are responsible for arranging pickup; transportation or shipping may be available for a fee. Donations are encouraged to help cover storage, supplies, transportation and volunteer stipends.
“ReadQuest is not simply a book giveaway,” Fulton added. “It is an investment in literacy, lifelong learning and stronger communities.”

Doors open at 5:40 pm and play starts at 7:30 pm. Bingo games are open to the public.
Depending on the week, two game formats are offered. Most weeks have packages available that are priced at $42, $35 and $25 plus $3 admission. They contain nine games with other games available for purchase including Pull Tabs, Quickies, two progressive bonanza jackpots and nightly specials. Games end at approximately 10 pm. On the final Wednesday of each month, the format switches to Pull Tabs and Specials only.
All game boards are paper with electronic verification. Pre-packaged snacks, beverages and bingo supplies are available for purchase.

Beth Am Temple holds a casual Fahrbrengen gathering for summer shabbat on Friday, September 4 at 5:30 pm in the Social Hall. The informal, non-prayer book meetings for all ages include songs, noshes, learning and discussion in the Social Hall. Kaddish will be recited. The public is welcome to join this 50-minute, informal Shabbat program.

Beth Am Temple’s schedule of services for the High Holy days of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur welcomes both members and nonmembers.
On Friday, September 11 at 7:30 pm, Rabbi Daniel Pernick, Cantorial Soloist Alex Schecter and Cantor Emerita Marcy Kadin will lead Erev Rosh Hashana services. Tickets are not required for the evening service. First day Rosh Hashana services, observing the start of the Jewish New Year 5787, begin at 10 am on Saturday with tickets required. 
Nonmembers are invited to attend the second day service on Sunday, September 13 at 10 am when no tickets are necessary. RSVPs are requested for nonmembers attending services.

Beth Am’s Kol Nidray service starts at 7:30 pm on Sunday, September 20 with the Monday morning Yom Kippur observance beginning at 10 am. Tickets are required for both the Sunday evening and Monday morning services. The public is invited to join afternoon worship beginning with the Healing Service at 3:15 pm, Afternoon Service at 4:30 pm, Yizkor at 5:30 pm followed by the Neilah/Concluding Service at 6:15 pm and Break the Fast. 
Additionally, Beth Am Temple offers religious school classes for kindergarten through seventh grade on Tuesdays and Sundays and Hebrew High School on Tuesdays. The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.
