Cashing Bad Check with Phony CT License: Clarkstown Cops

CLARKSTOWN, NY — At about 1 p.m. Monday, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to the Chase Bank branch at 132 Rte. 303 in Valley Cottage for a report of the passing of a fraudulent check.

Responding patrol units interviewed the 41-year-old bank manager who stated that a woman had attempted to cash an apparent fraudulent check and produced a fraudulent Connecticut driver’s license as a form of identification.

Maria Ruiz, 51, of the Bronx, was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. She was charged with identity theft 1st (felony), possession of forged instrument 2nd (felony) and attempted grand larceny 4th (felony).

Ruiz was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court and bail was set at $15,000. She was transported to Rockland County Jail and will return to court on Jan. 11.
