Chabad of Rockland Marks 1st Night Of Hanukkah

A large menorah in front of the county offices in New City marks one of December's big holidays.

NEW CITY, NY — Rockland County residents and officials marked the first night of Hanukkah with Chabad of Rockland, which placed a large menorah in front of the County offices in New City.

The menorah was placed near a creche that was set up earlier this month by another group to mark Christmas.

"There is plenty of room here in Rockland County to accommodate all religions, cultures and ethnicities," County Executive Ed Day said as Rabbi Simcha Morgenstern led a small crowd in reciting a prayer as he lit the first candle in the menorah. "All of us are enriched by exposure to cultures and beliefs other than our own. We wish everyone who celebrates a very Happy Hanukkah."
