Child Hurt, Driver Charged In Ramapo Hit-and-Run Friday

A Stony Point resident is accused of hitting a pedestrian on Route 202 while driving drunk.

WESLEY HILLS, NY — A Stony Point resident who police say hit a child while driving drunk on Route 202 Friday night faces charges in Wesley Hills Village Court. The Ramapo Police Department received a call at 11:10 p.m. from Hatzolla Ambulance reporting a hit-and-run and an injured child.

The child is between 7 and 9 years old, Ramapo police said. The child was transported by Hatzolla to Westchester Medical Center with facial injuries and a broken leg.

The vehicle did not stop and continued east on Route 202.

A vehicle with damage to the passenger side of the vehicle consistent with statements from witnesses at the scene was later located by Ramapo police officers in the parking lot of the Mount Ivy Diner.

The driver, Melissa Furnari, 35, was inside.

She was arrested and transported to The Ramapo Police Station where she was charged with DWI, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, assault 3rd, and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th.

She was arraigned and released on bail with a return date in Wesley Hills Court.
