Clarkstown Cops Make Arrest in Diamond Ring Theft
Investigators have charged a Mount Vernon man.

The Clarkstown Detective Bureau has arrested a Mount Vernon man after an extensive investigation was conducted into a larceny call July 27.
Davante Dempsey, 22, was arrested at his residence for the theft of a diamond ring valued at $8,800.
At about 8 PM the Clarkstown Police Department responded to Kay Jewelers, at the Palisades Mall in West Nyack, for a report of a diamond ring being stolen. Patrol officers responded to the scene and were informed by an employee that an unknown man entered the store and asked for assistance from the employee about diamond rings.

Police allege the employee removed a ring from the display case to allow the man to look at the ring. He grabbed it from the employee and ran from the store.
The officers were able to secure the store to allow detectives the opportunity to process the scene for traces of fingerprints. The detectives were able to lift a good set of fingerprints, view video footage and show witnesses a photo array.

These investigative efforts by the Clarkstown Detective Bureau led to the arrest of the suspect.
Davante Dempsey was charged with grand larceny 3rd (felony), grand larceny 4th(felony) and criminal possession of stolen property 3rd (felony). He was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court. Bail was set at $25,000.00. Dempsey was transported to the Rockland County Jail and will return to court on August 24.
