Clarkstown Hosts Statewide Training Session on Police Safety

With the number of officers shot to death up sharply, refresher training is important, officials said.

The Clarkstown Police Department will be hosting a 1-day seminar Wednesday on police safety awareness. It's called Below 100.

There are over 90 officers from departments all over New York scheduled to be in attendance, department officials said in a statement about the seminar.

Police officer line of duty deaths have been on an increase over the last few years and refresher training would be beneficial to officers. One of the tenets of this course emphasizes the importance of officers wearing their vests, especially with shooting-related deaths up 300 percent as of today compared to this time last year, CPD officials said.
